The following blog post was penned by an intern at Hybrid, Taylor Bragg, written on her arrival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to begin the second stage of her internship.
My experience with Hybrid so far has been better than I ever could have imagined. From submitting my first interview to walking through the doors of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, I have felt fully supported.
My internship began with three months in Hybrid’s Bristol office. Before starting, I felt very nervous about starting my new career. If I could go back and tell my past self one thing, though, it would be to relax! One thing that has particularly stood out for me with Hybrid is how fantastic the company culture is. From the sales team through to James Craven, the managing director, everyone in the team is so warm and welcoming and make you feel a vital part of the team from the first day.
The first three months consisted of a lot of learning and guidance from our mentor and editor, Steve Cotton. From learning how to use the coffee machine (a very vital workplace tool) to discovering how to pitch a story, come up with captivating headlines, and learning how the digital team promotes articles.
Three months later, here I am sitting in the KL office, with the view of the impressive Petronas Towers right in eyesight. Before leaving Bristol, I had mixed emotions of pure excitement and nerves. Of course, leaving behind friends and family is always a tough thing to do, but the excitement of this new adventure I had in front of me made this a whole lot easier. Knowing I had the support of the other three interns, Holly Patrick, Louisa Kendal and Izzy Bilton also made me feel a lot more relaxed.
We were given a warm welcome at the airport from our editor-in-chief Clara Chooi and social media editor Mas Shaari. They took us to our incredible apartment and then for our first experience of traditional Malaysian food – and in true Malaysian style, we ordered way too much!
I am into my second week in KL and I am already in love with this place. I feel as if I am settling in really well thanks to the warm and welcoming nature of everyone in the office. And I can’t wait to see what the future at this exciting, constantly evolving company has in store for me.
